Thanksgiving Day Game #1

Week 13 kicks off with three Thanksgiving Day games. The first game featured Bears @ Lions.

The Bears had clawed their back from a 23-7 deficit in the 3rd quarter, but poor clock management sealed their fate as they lose to the Lions, 23-20.

Okay eve is so repulsive to me to the point where it’s not even funny just the mention of her name makes me disgusted the fact that this little piece of useless Bacteria rlly thinks she has a chance against Avery and she annoys me so much specifically for what she did and what she does to Toby he literally took her in protected her from the dangerous of being in the Hawthorne house and its legacy something that even Avery didn’t get to have and this bitch had the audacity to betray him and then come around a book later like Oo I am so poor I am so alone blah blah I came from nothing so it’s okay that I betrayed every who trusted me causing both physical and mental harm

Why was Irish Modernism so fecund for playwrighting? Shaw-Wilde-Beckett alone, plus Yeats wrote some good stuff and even arch-novelist Joyce dabbled...

Glib, offensive answer: the Irish have the gift of gab. I only think there's anything to this weary essentialism because supposedly cowboy-laconic America has produced so few great playwrights—and the first of those was famously Irish-American. A more serious answer, inspired by Jameson's reading of Ulysses in "Modernism and Imperialism": growing up in still-colonial Ireland, a small society not yet as complex and differentiated as (for instance) post-industrial imperial England or post-revolutionary imperial France, gave the budding author a sense of the nation as polis and therefore capable of being assembled in a deliberative body around the ritual of drama, just as it was for the Classical Athenians. Shaw, Wilde, and Beckett could carry this attitude as far afield as London and Paris, while Yeats and his collaborators tried with some success in the Abbey to exploit the situation directly and create a nation onstage. I don't know how persuasive that is, but it is what comes to mind. The merit of this answer is that by application it also helps to explain why the other major playwrights of the period (Ibsen, Strindberg, Chekhov) also came from the not-yet-fully-modernized periphery of Europe, while (early) Nietzsche praised Wagner for trying to be the new German nation's Athenian tragedian.

WEEK 4 wraps up with the Seahawks @ the Lions on Monday Night Football

Lions QB Jared Goff had a perfect night, setting an NFL record by completing all of his passes (18) as the Lions topped the Seahawks 42-29.

The injury-depleted Seahawks could not stop the dynamic air and ground offense of the Lions who even threw in a trick play of a touchdown pass from WR Amon-Ra St. Brown to QB Goff. Both teams are 3-1 on the season.
